How your culture ensures team engagement

Jessy Antonis – recently on board as a recruiter at Blinqx, is on a Quest to get to know the Blinqx culture and shared values (smart rebels, ambitious, human centered) and find out the story behind it. So that she can successfully match the right people. To achieve her goal, she will engage with CEO Ruud van der Kruk to explore the culture of Blinqx. This week the focus is on the value “Human Centered”. Follow her journey of discovery and learn together what this value means to Blinqx!

Ruud, the value “Human Centered” is one of the three most important values within Blinqx. What does this value mean to you, both personally and to the organization?

“‘Human Centered’ for us means that we always work with and for people, both internally and with our customers. It is the basis of everything we do: respect, openness and commitment. It is important to us that everyone feels seen, heard and valued. This value ensures that we focus not only on someone’s work, but also on personal involvement . For me personally, it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable being themselves and working together in a way that helps them move forward. So putting personal needs at the center of how we set and achieve our goals.”

Can you elaborate a bit on how “Human Centered” comes to life in daily practice within Blinqx?

“Certainly. First of all, it means that we don’t see mistakes as failures, but as learning moments. Blinqx is growing incredibly fast, and mistakes are part of the growth path, both personally and for the organization. It’s important to recognize that no one is perfect, but we can improve ourselves by working together and being open about what could be better. That means not avoiding difficult conversations, but rather grasping them as opportunities to grow together. I like to put the facts on the table, without judgment, so that we can understand different perspectives – because only then can we come to the right insights. This helps us not only as an organization, but also as a team.”

That sounds like a culture centered on openness and honesty. What about giving feedback within Blinqx? How do you make sure it’s done in a constructive way?

“Feedback is essential to our culture. It’s important that feedback doesn’t just come from your manager or supervisor, but is shared the other way around, horizontally and vertically within the organization. I think it’s important that everyone feels comfortable sharing their thinking – in a respectful way, regardless of position or seniority. That way we keep each other on our toes and continue to improve as an organization. It is very different from criticizing, it’s about the intention to help each other and the organization – by daring to be open – and become stronger together.”

That sounds like a very inclusive way of working. What does this value look like in your relationship with customers?

“With customers, it’s exactly the same. We aim to build strong, open relationships in which we are not afraid to be transparent about what is going well, but also where we can still improve. In doing so, it is essential to always put the customer at center; listening to their needs and trying to come up with the best solutions together. We embrace input and interaction with our customers because it helps us think more broadly and improve our services. It’s not just business, it’s personal. We want our customers to feel heard and confident in what we do.”

And how is the value “Human Centered” reflected in the collaboration between colleagues within Blinqx?

“The core of ‘Human Centered’ is to think in ‘we’, not ‘I’. When things are going well, we celebrate the successes together, and when things get tough, we solve them together. This mentality ensures that we remain strong as a team, even in times when not everything goes smoothly. We share our knowledge and experiences with each other, which promotes cooperation and creates a sense of trust. Diversity in thinking plays a big role here: by embracing different perspectives and ideas, we create healthy discussions. This makes us more flexible and innovative as a team.”

It sounds like everyone within Blinqx has a voice, regardless of their position in the organization. How do you handle decision-making within such a culture?

“That’s right. Everyone is heard, but that doesn’t mean we always strive for consensus. Sometimes we have to make quick and targeted decisions – in a growing organization like Blinqx, you can’t escape that – and then it’s important to find the right balance. We make decisions even if not everyone agrees, but we include the different perspectives of the people in the organization. It’s all about balance: an environment where everyone feels involved, but where we also dare to choose and give direction when necessary.”

What would you say to someone considering joining Blinqx and wondering if they fit into this culture?

“If you are looking for a work environment where you can give and receive feedback, where you can grow from diverse viewpoints and achieve goals together, then you are a perfect fit with Blinqx. We are all about respect, collaboration and embracing different perspectives. If you value celebrating successes together, but also being jointly responsible for challenges, then you’ve come to the right place with us.”
