In 2007, VDT used a workflow that combined various separate software programs and applications (such as Outlook for email, Excel for spreadsheets, and a Document Management System (DMS)) to create a functional system. However, this approach led to inefficiency and a lack of cohesion, as the programs were not fully integrated. Using multiple programs side by side resulted in a cluttered and less effective work process. Therefore, VDT Advocaten sought a solution that could integrate everything into one system, making the workflow more streamlined, simpler, and uniform for everyone in the office.

Koenraad de Klerk, an experienced lawyer specializing in corporate, insolvency, and business law, was tasked with finding an advanced automation solution. The choice for BaseNet was made quickly, as it offered a uniform and integrated workflow from its very first cloud-based version. De Klerk explains: ‘The first version of BaseNet was already far ahead of its competitors in 2007. The program provided a well-thought-out and uniform workflow for everyone.’ This was seen as a breath of fresh air by both De Klerk and his colleagues.
The personal relationship with BaseNet and the fact that BaseNet was just starting in the legal field in 2007 also fostered a close collaboration. As a result, VDT had significant influence on the development of BaseNet, including the introduction of features like legal aid registrations, role administration, and insolvency case files. This collaboration led to the creation of a full-service package tailored to the needs of lawyers
